Entertainment for Children

There is plenty to entertain children of all ages, starting with the many and varied:

Beaches (click here)

There is also a beach at the inland lake near El Chorro which has a sectioned off children's playing area and pedallos for hire in the summer

Also popular will be: Theme Parks and Zoos (click here)

Favourites are Tivoli World, a large theme park with rides, shows and theatres and all day entertainment for children; the Crocodile Park (see the advert below); the smaller Lobopark which is convenient and gentle for younger children, with howling wolves, horse riding and a petting zoo; and the Selwo Marine, with performances by dolphins and sea lions. But these are just a few, there are a dozen or more reasonably accessible from Álora by car and listed in the house handbook and local English papers ("La Sur in English" - free from many outlets in the town).

If you want to be more active, some of the riding schools cater for families and it is easy to arrange a day cycling around the El Chorro national park - cycle hire, guide and picnic inclusive. In Álora itself there is a excellent "Parc Infantile" for younger children and an open air swimming pool (not open in winter).

Also local are two bars with free access swimming pools. The Mirador is on the hillside near the station and the unlikely Finca la Ermita is on the road to the lakes, about 1km past the gorge at El Chorro. Both are just a normal country bars but for children (and adults) they are places to swim whilst parents while away the time - the owners are quite happy to let you sit there reading and sipping beer or coffee. Finca la Ermita is mostly frequented by local Spanish families who have found somewhere to take their children after school and can be hit and miss in winter – they heat the pool but only if somebody is staying at the hotel.
